Blogger Boss Babe: Savannah

This week I am excited to introduce our Blogger Boss Babe, Miss Savannah Schilperoort! I love all my PNW Boss Babes, but this lady is pretty special. She has been one of the digital forces behind AHP for the past year, working on our blogs and social media marketing. I was referred to her by one of our other Boss Babes (check out Nancy’s post here!) and we pretty much clicked right away. Making sure I work with people who are on board with my mission and values is vital to me, especially when it comes to writing about all my AH-mazing seniors. I can’t risk sacrificing that bond! I know Savannah feels the same way, which is why I knew we would work so well together.

BTS Studio Tour

Though Savannah and I have been working together since January 2022, this was the first time we were actually able to meet in person! How crazy is that?? I found out she only lived 3 hours away and I knew we needed to get her some new headshots! So we made a date, and she came down to Studio253! She started off in the Glam Room with our expert HMUA, Makeup by Tracie. After that, we got to give her a quick tour of our studio space. Since she had never been to our Downtown location before, it was a great chance for her to explore all our rooms and get a behind-the-scenes peek at what she is always writing about!

Let’s Get to Know Our Boss Babe!

Savannah was born and raised in Washington State, getting to cultivate a love of the PNW! Since graduating college in 2020, she has made a point of working with women-owned businesses and creators to showcase their work and passions. Above all, she seeks to promote meaningful stories and the people behind them. She said that oftentimes, “marketing can get a bad rap as “sales pitches” and “media manipulating.” The better way, which she’s seen more and more creators turning towards, is personal advertisements. Sharing more about yourself and the story behind what makes you, you! “At the end of the day, we are more successful across the board when we are connecting as humans, not as corporations.” This is a belief she takes into every project she works on and each new client she meets. People first marketing.

Top 3 Things I Learned During My First Photoshoot

For this blog, Savannah wanted to share the Top 3 things she learned from her time behind the camera:

1. Pro Hair and Makeup Will Make You Feel Invincible!

As someone who rarely wears makeup, I had no idea how I would feel seeing the final look Tracie came up with. Would I even look or feel like myself? Knowing the great work she always does with the seniors, I had complete faith in her skills. No matter what, she would make me look good! What I was not prepared for though, was how empowered I felt after looking at my reflection in the mirror! Once my hair and makeup was done and I changed into my blazer, I was more than ready for my headshots. I felt like I could take on the world! Even at the end of the night, I didn’t want to wash it all away! After just one session with Tracie, I have a whole new respect for the power of good makeup!

2. Wear Your Favorite Outfit Last

Though I was feeling on top of the world, I still had a few jitters for actually being in front of the camera. Amanda was so calm and supportive, ready with pose tips and confidence boosting compliments to put me at ease. Even with all of that, it still took me time to get comfortable being photographed. But by the second outfit, I finally got the hang of it. Seeing all the photos back-to-back, I was SO happy I saved my favorite outfit for last. All the photos are great (as you will see) but picking the order of your outfits can have a huge effect on how you feel during your shoot! I was much more relaxed in my second outfit and ended up loving the results. Always pick outfits that are going to put a smile on your face and save your favs for once you get out of your head!

3. Photoshoots Are Always Better With Friends

Speaking of smiles, the biggest (and last) tip I have for you is probably the most obvious: photoshoots are better with friends! I was lucky enough to bring along one of my best friends and what a difference it made! Having an authentic smile makes every portrait better. Not to mention, you have your biggest hype team and detail catcher right next to you! Anytime I was worried about my hair or how low my shirt was (I think you all know where I’m coming from on this worry!) my friend was there to ease my fears or help make a quick fix. So when in doubt, always bring a friend with you! Plus, Amanda will let you take some cute photos together! Truly a win-win!
