WA June Family Portraits
The James family took their WA June Family Portraits with me at Ft. Steilacoom this past spring! We met up on a beautiful PNW day in Lakewood and were able to get tons of great shots before sundown. Catching up with some of my senior families and getting to spend the day capturing their smiles is always such a treat for me! Each year I get to meet so many wonderful families. The James family is one I have shot with several times. It was so special getting to reconnect with them again and hear all about what’s new in their lives!
Class of 2022 Seniors
I have known the James family since 2021! So when we all got together for these family photos, I felt like I already knew everyone! We first met when their twin children, Sarah and Bo, were upcoming seniors. Bo had a modern shoot in Downtown Tacoma with me at the Museum of Glass that was totally him! You can find his portraits on the blog to get some inspiration for a modern senior guy session. His twin sister, Sarah, had her shoot with me later that year! We took her portraits in Opera Allery, and her session was full of bright, bold colors. Sarah was also on the AHP Model Team for the Class of 2022 senior girls! Best PNW Portrait Locations for the Spring
We lucked out on the weather for their session this year! Even though it had been an unusually cold June for us in Western Washington, we got some much-needed sunshine. It was perfect for our shoot! During the spring, Ft. Stilly is full of lush greenery and trees. It is a great location in the Fall too, with its dried grass and fall leaves, but this time of year, I love it for all the fresh meadows and grass! Which we took full advantage of for some relaxed, seated poses. The James family is so close so we got to have some fun with their shoot and it really shows in their portraits!
How to Dress For Outdoor Family Photos
Picking your color scheme for your family photos is an important part of making sure your portraits turn out as great as we want them to! When selecting your theme, you want to keep in mind comfort, location, and what works best with your family! Even though their portraits were shot outside, the James family opted for a dressed-up, fancier style in their clothing choice. Their colors worked so well with all the surrounding greenery and natural light. And they weren’t afraid to get their clothes just a little dirty for a few creative shots on the ground! After 20-plus years of working with families, I’ve learned that what makes family photos the best is when everyone is the most comfortable. So keep that in mind when you are searching for those perfect outfits, and you’ll be just fine!
