My 17th Wedding Anniversary
Not only is today halfway through one of my favorite months, but it is also my 17th wedding anniversary!! My AH-mazing husband, Loren, and I got married on Sunday, October 15th, 2006 in South Lake Tahoe, CA. Oh my gosh, how time flies! Though we are not back in California, our anniversary feels extra special this year because it also falls on a Sunday – how fun!! As any couple will tell you, marriage takes a lot of work. But when you marry someone as wonderful, and full of life as I did, the work is absolutely worth it! This year, I wanted to share some of our love story with you and of course, some of my favorite photos from our past anniversary shoot!
Lake Tahoe Wedding
Not to get too romantic (who am I kidding we all know I love love!), but Loren and my wedding day in Lake Tahoe was the most perfect day. We got hitched at a park on a sunny fall day and had our ceremony at Edgewood Golf Course on the lake. The next morning, we hopped in a car and headed to the airport for two full weeks in Hawaii! On our itinerary were the Big Island and Kauai. Hawaii is where I grew up, so it will always hold an important place in my heart and it was so much fun to go back and visit. Though I love it there, Kauai is my favorite island, so I knew we had to spend some of our time there too! It was awesome!
Reno Anniversary Portraits
About ten years ago, on our 9th (or was it 10th?! Shh, don’t tell my husband!) anniversary, we decided to plan something big to celebrate. We booked a photography session in Reno with photographer Anicia Beckwith, and I wore my wedding dress! Complete with my fun, purple hair which I still love! Who thinks I should rock that look again? This shoot was so much fun and we will be doing another one in the next few years. Stay tuned! Here are a few photos I have not shared yet from that anniversary! Why All Married Couples Should Get Their Portraits Taken, Again!
No matter how many years a couple has been together, anniversary shoots are so much fun!! And if you have made it to double-digit years, you absolutely deserve to show off your love – double the amount you did on your wedding day! Couples only have a few times in their life when they get to dress up really fancy and have professional photos taken. That’s one of the reasons why I think all couples should get their portraits taken again. Whether it is for an anniversary, a gift to your spouse on Valentine’s Day, or just a fun mid-week surprise, your love is worth remembering and celebrating. And I promise, you don’t have to wear your old wedding dress unless you want to!!
